Một tòa án trong nước hôm 5/12 đã kết án ông Nguyễn Mạnh Tường 19
năm tù giam vì đã vứt xác bệnh nhân xuống sông sau khi làm nạn nhân tử vong
trong một ca phẫu thuật thẩm mỹ.
Hồi tháng Mười năm ngoái, chị Lê Thị Thanh Huyền tử vong trong khi
được bác sĩ Tường hút mỡ và nâng ngực tại thẩm mỹ viện Cát Tường.
Ông Tường bị cáo buộc đã vứt xác chị Huyền, 37 tuổi, xuống sông
Hồng ở Hà Nội với sự trợ giúp của bảo vệ Đào Quang Khánh.
Gia đình đã tìm thấy thi thể không nguyên vẹn của nạn nhân xấu số
sau nhiều tháng tìm kiếm.
Tòa án Nhân dân Hà Nội cho rằng việc làm của ông Tường “gây hậu
quả đặc biệt nghiêm trọng đối với xã hội và gia đình nạn nhân, gây phẫn nộ
trong dư luận, ảnh hưởng tiêu cực đến hình ảnh người thầy thuốc và uy tín của
ngành y tế”.
Ông Tường bị tuyên án tổng cộng 19 năm tù giam, trong đó 14 năm về
tội “vi phạm quy định về khám chữa bệnh”, và 5 năm tội “xâm phạm thi thể”.
Ngoài ra, bác sĩ này cũng phải bồi thường hơn 585 triệu đồng cho
gia đình nạn nhân và phải cấp dưỡng nuôi con nạn nhân 1 triệu đồng/tháng
một cháu cho đến khi đủ 18 tuổi.
Ông Tường cũng bị cấm hành nghề 5 năm sau khi mãn hạn tù.
Trong khi đó, bị cáo Khánh bị tuyên án 33 tháng tù giam, trong đó
24 tháng vì tội “xâm phạm thi thể, mồ mả, hài cốt” và 9 tháng tù về tội “trộm
cắp tài sản”.
Tại tòa, cả hai bị cáo Tường và Khánh đã nói lời xin lỗi tới gia đình nạn nhân.

Dù không có con số thống kê chính thức, báo chí trong nước đưa tin
rằng, với điều kiện sống tăng lên, ngày càng nhiều phụ nữ tới các thẩm mỹ viện
để làm đẹp.

Vietnamese surgeon jailed for dumping patient's body in river
Hanoi (AFP) - A Vietnamese court on Friday sentenced a cosmetic surgeon to 19 years in jail for throwing the body of a patient who died during a botched operation into a river.
Le Thi Thanh Huyen, 37, died in October 2013 after undergoing liposuction and a breast augmentation operation at the private Cat Tuong Clinic in Hanoi, despite efforts by the centre's staff to revive her.
Police said doctor Nguyen Manh Tuong dumped her body in the Vietnamese capital's main river, with the help of a clinic security guard.
Her headless corpse was pulled from the river in July this year and identified by DNA tests.
Tuong was jailed for "violating regulations of medical care" and mistreating the body of the victim, the court heard.
"I feel remorse, I repent and I want to apologise to the family of the victim," the doctor told the court.
Tuong worked at the well-respected state-run Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi and also ran the Cat Tuong Beauty Salon, offering cosmetic surgery.
The clinic had a business licence but no permit to carry out cosmetic surgery. It has since been shut down.
The victim's husband did not know she was undergoing a surgical procedure but found a receipt for the appointment while searching her belongings after she failed to return home, state media reported.
Tuong and the security guard were arrested shortly after, in October 2013.
The security guard was sentenced Friday to 33 months in jail for theft -- of the mobile phone of the victim -- and mistreating the body.
Although no official statistics are available, media reports suggest the number of Vietnamese women undergoing procedures such as breast augmentation and facelifts has increased significantly in recent years as a new generation of body conscious and wealthy women turn to clinics for help.
Vietnam's health sector is generally poorly regulated.
Many doctors at state-run hospitals also run unlicenced private clinics or offer treatment from their homes.
